There are three recreation areas situated around the lake with a total of campsites, some with full utility hook-ups for RV. Don Pedro is one of California's premier warm water fisheries most noted for excellent largemouth bass fishing. Lake Ming and Hart Park are just a few miles from Bakersfield along this lower portion and offer some fine picnicking, swimming, boating, and camping. This portion of the Kern River has very steep canyon walls and extremely torrent water flows during spring run-off.
