I think that would be cool but if you are betting gil then you have the chance to lose it as well so it wouldn't be a reliable way to make gil. Also there several ways to make gil in XI such as killing mobs, gardening, crafting and bcnm's. At the very least, it's a money sink that doesn't impact non-gamblers- maybe if inflation gets way too high, offer a limited-time game with special event prizes in order to bring things down to normal Where there is light, there is darkness.

When I talked with Aurege he just said 'Gambling is the ruin of many', but Varchet still gambled with me and I won first try. I went back to Aurege and he said he didn't remember sending me to get Varchet, but gave me the map as reward anyway.

Just says something about gambling being some great downfall and trails off. You just have to go gamble with this Varchet guy till you win which took a while for me Then go back and talk to the NPC giver and he'll reward you with a map. I think they figured that if you talked to every NPC you'd know there were only a couple of gamblers Turns out Varchet realizes who you are right away after you talk to the start NPC.

There is an elevated walkway around the top To gamble with Varchet, trade him 5 Gil, you each roll two dice, the one with the highest total wins, and gets 10gil, the loser loses his 5gil, and on a tie you both keep your gil.
